Unready Kilowatts -- The High-Tension Politics of Ecology, just published by Open Court Publ. Co. ($11.95) is a book of major importance.
The author, Dr. Gary Farmer, is a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine so what does he know about electric power?
Plenty. Not only because his training included nuclear physics and ecological sciences (he now heads an environmental consulting firm), but because his wide-ranging experience has included such things as research of radiological damage to cattle and other mammals on the Nevada Atomic Test Range; he is one of the few who know about radiation hazards from first-hand experience in the field.
Here is a book on what the environmentalists have done not only to the electrical industry and to the economic well-being of every American, but to the environment itself.
More and more people are coming to realize that Nader is an ignorant fanatic; but what about PhD's working for the AEC such as Tamplin and Gofman? Their sensationalist statements (in effect, assuming women to remain pregnant for 400 years) are quoted and requoted by every ecofreak. Who are they? This book will tell you. Who is Dr. Sternglass and why are they saying such bad things about him? Because his strontium 90 bogey was based on major and minor errors. The minor errors were off by a factor of 20,000; this book will tell you about the major errors, too.
Whom does the ban on DDT protect, apart from the tussock moth and other pests? This book will tell you. Thermal "pollution" kills fish, as everybody knows. Everybody but the fish; they love it.
The book is extremely well documented and brimfull of facts. It is written for laymen and eminently readable. For all who seek ammunition to stem the tide of superstitious irrationality, this book is a must.
