Last August, Ralph Nader accepted an invitation by the National War College in Washington, D.C., to debate this writer on the issue of nuclear proliferation on October 3. About 3 weeks before the event, Nader paid this writer the compliment of chickening out of a debate; he was willing to lecture, but not debate. Reason: He had "changed his mind." The War College then decided on separate lectures by the two speakers. On October 3, Nader canceled the engagement by telephone and sent no deputy (can there be one?), leaving the packed hall to this writer for double the originally allotted time.
The material prepared for the lecture is the basis of a 16-page illustrated booklet, Nuclear Proliferation: How to Blunder Into Promoting It
The fourth edition of A History of n (Pi) by P. Beckmann has just been published. It is a history of the circle ratio through the ages and has nothing to do with energy (or has it?).
