The latest of the booklets published by the International Institute of Economic Research, The Economics of America's Third Century, a discussion between R.F. Rooney and M.B. Johnson, is particularly interesting, as it confronts two supporters of the free enterprise system who disagree on the so - called environmental movement. Prof. Johnson makes a case of rare cogency for the opposition. 95¢ from Green Hill Publishers, Box 738, Ottawa, IL 61350.
Where does the anti nuclear movement get its lavish funds? Where did Mobilization for Survival come from? Is the American Friends' Service Committee really "a corporate expression of Quaker faith?" These and many other points are answered in a unique contribution by the Hon. L. McDonald (DGa) in the Congressional Record of 16 May 197S, pp. E 2589 E 2596, (At most public libraries.)
William Tucker, author of Environmentalism and the Leisure Class is back in the August issue of Harpers with a 15 page center supplement Of Mites and Men, which is just as superb as his earlier piece. This time Tucker reports on the anti-environmentalism of the environmentalists in the field of biological and chemical insect control.
The Skeptical Inquirer (formerly The Zetetic) is a highly readable journal devoted to examining the claims of the paranormal, so far always turning out to be pseudo scientific nonsense. The editorial board comprises not only many eminent scientists, but also people with special skills: "psychics" like Uri Geller may fool physics PhD's at Stanford Research Institute, but not James Randi, who is a professional magician. Semiannually, $10 year from Box 5, Buffalo, NY 14226.
