Access to Energy

GOOD READING

1) Power Grab: The Conserver Cult and the Coming Energy Catastrophe by J. A. Weber (hardb., 407 pp., $12.95 from Arlington House, 165 Huguenot St., New Rochelle, NY 10801). This is a highly readable book on the environmentalist ethic and what it is doing to America's energy sources. Readers of this newsletter will be familiar with the basic aspect of this subject, yet there is very much more in this book than a monthly newsletter can hope to bring.

2) This newsletter defends science against superstition in the energy field; who is doing it in the field of health? The American Council on Science and Health, led by the nation's foremost physicians and health scientists, including Nobel Prize winner Dr Norman Borlaug, nutritionist Dr T. H. Jukes, and executive director Dr Elizabeth M. Whelan, well known for her fight against sensation-seeking cancer scares. Membership ($25/year) includes a recently started bimonthly (in no.1, Nobel Prize winner Dr Rosalyn Yalow, see above, is interviewed). Write ACSH, 1995 Broadway, New York, NY 10023.

3) The Association for Rational Environmental Alternatives seeks voluntary, non-governmental solutions to environmental problems; membership (including excellent newsletter) $20/year. Box 27043, Houston, TX 77027.

4) An excellent short sequel: Environmentalism II, free from National Council of Environmental Balance, Box 7732, Louisville, KY 40207.
