HELP SAVE THE FIRST AMENDMENT!

After Sen. Ribicoffs Commerce Committee's exhaustive investigation rejected Nader's inflammatory charges against the Corvair, syndicated columnist Ralph de Toledano in 1975 reported on the "250 devastating columns of the Congressional Record to demonstrate conclusively that Nader falsified and distorted evidence to make his case against the automobile." Nader sued for libel; a laughable action by a public figure against press criticism, which deservedly got thrown out of court. But Nader set the legal machinery of his corporate empire into motion, appealed, and protracted with what can only be interpreted as a policy of driving de Toledano bankrupt. Toledano has neither Nader's annual income in the hundreds of thousands, nor his batteries of full-time lawyers, but recently had to pay $4,000 for having his case printed for presentation to the Supreme Court. And his column remains muzzled about Nader until the case is settled. Please help de Toledano and the First Amendment by sending him contributions for his defense at 318 National Press Bldg., Washington, DC 20045.
