THE ROLE OF ELECTRICITY

A brilliant paper by Dr Fremont Felix, the internationally known expert on energy use in the world, was given at the Economy, Energy and Electricity conference in Toronto last October. Felix, consultant to Gibbs & Hill, Inc., demonstrates the validity of a striking insight:

Expanded electrification will not only substantially reduce oil use, but will propel economic recovery. This flatly contradicts the de-industrialization gurus, of course. They have the rhetoric; but Felix has the data. The figure below, for example, illustrates how a greater share of electricity saves energy per product value.

A summary of this fact-filled paper (Our top priority: Expanded electrification) is available from AIF, Public. Dept. 7101 Wisconsin Ave, Washington, DC 20014.
