BRAINWASH ANTIDOTES

1) "Genetic effects of the atomic bombs: a reappraisal," by Schull, Otake and Neel, Science, 11 Sept 81, pp. 1220-1227. Still no. significant effects observed in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, but the theoretical effects 4 times smaller than hitherto assumed.

2) Responses to the Low Level Radiation Controversy, excellent 31-page report by Dr V.P. Bond, Assoc. Director of Brookhaven National Lab, Upton, NY 11973; free to AtE readers from the author.

3) Management of Nuclear Wastes, 16-page colorful, informative booklet, free from Publications Dept., International Atomic Energy Agency, Box 100, A-1400, Wien, Austria.

4) "Too cheap to meter," is a semi-fraud [AtE Aug 80]; similarly what GM Director C.E. Wilson really said "What's good for the country is good for General Motors." Details in The Changing Challenge, vol.8, no.2, free from GMC, 3044 W. Grand Blvd., Detroit, MI 48202 (attn.: Hugh Wells).

5) Since before the Roman conquest of Britain, the sick have flocked to the wondrous waters in what now is the English city of Bath. The Romans in 43 A.D. built a temple to the Godess of Wisdom and Health there, Bishop Bekynton in 1449 threatened with "greater excommunication" those who would make visitors use the baths naked, in 1742 the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases was established there, and to this day it remains a research center for the study of rheumatism. The radon content of the water (from Johnny Green's Journal, S. Australian Chamber of Mines, Adelaide), is 1,730 PC/liter, that of the natural gas there 33,650 pC/liter. For the water alone, that is 173 times the specific activity of the water (10 gallons) spilled at Indian Point on 29 March 1979, which caused the NY Daily News to cover all of its front page with the giant headline NUKE LEAK GOES OUT OF CONTROL.
