Access to Energy

ECHOES AND UPDATES

1) Our refutation of the UCS/ Washington Post hoax last was reprinted by the individualist biweekly ERGO on the Harvard/MIT campuses (3 Ames St., Cambridge, MA 02139) for a little enlightenment on Prof. Kendall's home campus; and an editorial of the Dayton, Ohio, Journal Herald quoted extensively from it after subscriber John Quel had sent it in. Cordial thanks to friend Quel; this is what Access to Energy is for.

2) Our report on radon in Sweden "contradicts reason," writes an irate reader. Try Maine, then. Prof. C.T. Hess and two other researchers from the U. of Maine have a paper in print (to be published in Environment International shortly) that includes more: the correlation, by counties, of radon concentration in the water and lung cancer incidence is a whopping 46% for men and 65% for women (correlation describes the degree of closeness with which the two are tied together), and they found one (solar) house with a concentration of 200 pCi/l¾a dose of 30 mrem per hour (not year) to the bronchial epithelium [AtE Nov. 82].
