Too one-sided, are we? Then let the other side be heard, too:

OPEC has never been a cartel... [It] has never initiated price increases for oil... Only the [oil] companies control the downstream transportation, refining and marketing of petroleum. It is the companies that still attempt to balance demand and supply. And it is the companies, in particular the Aramco partners, which have forced Saudi Arabia to cut production, because Saudi Arabia has refused to cut its prices.

Is it even conceivable that the completion of the Siberia-Western Europe gas pipeline would be made dependent on so-called political prisoners? Not to mention the fact that there isn't a single person in the Soviet Union who has lost his freedom for political reasons.
