1) I was wrong [AtE Aug 84]: First, DES is not an antibiotic, but a hormone, and was, not is, used in the (vain) hope to prevent miscarriages; second, the reason why millions of children in the Third World have died, Prof. Jukes points out, is not the opposition to using antibiotics in raising livestock, but to using it against diarrhea. I am very sorry, though I am glad that neither error affects the conclusion of the horrendous inconsistency of the FDA and the sham-environmentalists; and I am genuinely grateful to the many M.D.'s who pointed out my errors.
4) I also garbled the name of Ladislav Bittman, author of the eye-opening book on Soviet espionage, The Deception Game (Ballantine Books, 1981).
3) A letter from Dr Arthur Robinson: "... I had wondered why the interviews with Constance Holden and her article were never published. Now I know. She confirmed the story [AtE Aug 84] by telephone when I called her today."
"Where Pauling's cronies can't cover for him, threats and legal tricks are tried. The lawyers are still trying to get from me that part of the 50,000 page litigation file that proves his guilt, and threats to sue have been issued by Pauling and his lawyers against at least two publications in an effort to suppress the story about the settlement..."
