1) "You are absolutely right that large amounts of rain will fall after a nuclear explosion [AtE Sep 84], due more to nearby bodies of water being evaporated and nucleation of high altitude clouds than to moisture sent into the air by fires. Hiroshima gave a dramatic example: for more than 6 hours after the detonation, Hiroshima received incredible rainfall, with rain droplets the size of marbles! (see Hiroshima by Hersey.)"

2) The recent vast forest fires in Montana should also provide a test of the Sagan tale; I will appreciate reports of any evidence of soot in the stratosphere from them. But I reiterate: this is a test of the correctness of the tale; its irrelevance is already well established
¾ fear of war does not prevent it.3) I do not consider the Executive Intelligence Review, a part of the LaRouche apparatus, a trustworthy journal; but their interview with Dr Arthur Robinson, "The Nobel fakery of Linus Pauling" (8/10/84) is published without major errors, as I verified directly with Dr Robinson. The interview reports, among other shocking revelations, on the type of evidence that Pauling destroyed [AtE Aug, Sep 84]. It showed that when mice were given a dose of Vitamin C equivalent to that recommended by Pauling for people, their cancer rate doubled; yet Pauling continues to advocate Vitamin C as a cancer cure.
