Now for a postscript to my reply to Chevron. In the Wall Street J. of 2/11, W. M. Evers promotes his pet project of free trade with those who are out to destroy it; he also accuses Savimbi of being a follower of Mao Tse-Tung and similar leanings. But instead of Mr Evers' manufactured gossip of what Savimbi believes in, readers may consult Savimbi himself: he writes about it in a most interesting article in Policy Review, Winter 1986 (he learned guerilla tactics from Mao Tse-Tung, but utterly rejects his totalitarian methods of governing).
However, Evers' gossip is not only false, it is also irrelevant: would you deny help to the Afghan freedom fighters because you are not a Mohammedan?
We have met Mr Evers before [AtE Jul 80]: he is the fanatical antinuke who used to work for Libertarian Review, a radical-left monthly with pro-free market rhetoric. When the welfare checks by a single donor dried up, the journal was at the mercy of the real free market, and what the market said was "pfft." A similar fate befell its even more left-leaning sister journal Inquiry: condemned to making a living on its own, it croaked; for the market demands more than lip service.
