PSEUDOSCIENCE ON THE RIGHT

In answer to many and continued readers' queries about the "Tesla Factor" and "Scalar Electromagnetic Weapons," I must answer that they are baseless nonsense, concocted by one T.E. Bearden and given (perhaps well-intentioned) publicity by a Com-mittee to Restore the Constitution in Ft. Collins, Colo.

Nikola Tesla was a brilliant scientist and engineer who did indeed experiment with geophysical sources of electromagnetic energy, but Bearden's version of it is pure fantasy. He uses scientific terms as empty shells to impress laymen; some are absurd ("scalar force" is the equivalent of "cannibalistic vegetarian"), others ("reverse solu-tion of the wave equation") are genuine, but have no relation to his fables presented without a shred of evidence.

The sad part is that there is mounting evidence of some pretty horrid Soviet biological weapons, as well as of the Soviets' possible superiority in (well understood) directed energy and allied fields. Dreaming up scares in addition will ultimately only make light of the genuine threats.

If Mr Bearden wanted to do something for anti-communism, he could put his fertile imagination at the service of the aging Helen Caldicott and damage her credibility or what's left of it. Meanwhile, note that anti-communism does not guarantee trustworthiness.
