BRITISH BREAKTHROUGH
The British company TVF has made an outstanding 1-hour documentary "The Greenhouse Conspiracy," and what's more, the British network ITV has aired it. (ITV is private, with commer-cials; the BBC corresponds to PBS in both government subsidy and unquestioning Green devoutness.) The program was widely reviewed in British journals and newspapers on which it made a strong impression. The protagonists of the film have all been mentioned in these pages for years: Idso, Lindzen, Michaels, Elsaesser, and the other scientists who have pointed out the lack of persuasive evidence, the neglect of rival theories, and the contradictions of the historical record. Ample time is also given to the greenhouse promoters, especially Stephen Schneider, who succeeds most persuasively in making an arrogant fool of himself. But perhaps the biggest breakthrough in the face of the media monopoly is the last part, which discusses the reasons why such a sham theory has made so much headway by an unholy alignment of interests: the govern-ment-paid scientists who can get more funds if the investigation staves off doomsday, the politicians who pose as champions of good against evil, and the press which needs the sensations of doomsday . The videotape is to be commercially available in the US soon, but the censors of the Great American Brainwash Machine have been working strenuously, and so far successfully, to keep it from being shown on TV, where it might provoke the flock of faithful into the ultimate sin of thinking for themselves. Meanwhile it is available to AtE readers (on the understanding that they will not sell copies and return the tape) from Competitive Enterprise Inst., 233 Pennsylvania Ave. SE, 2nd fl., Washington, DC 20003, tel. 202-547-1010. (Caution: do not mistake the long pause between parts 1 and 2 as the end of the tape!) Once again CEI is to be congratulated; please send them a con-tribution when you return the tapežthey are clearly doing a lot more than collecting money.
