Prof Julian Simon (The Ultimate Resource, etc.) said we are not running out of resources, that they are getting cheaper, and in 1980 offered to bet anybody the difference of any commodity in the futures market 10 years hence. Any takers in the doomsday in-dustry? Yes. Paul Lysenko Ehrlich bet $1,000 on five metals, lost on all of them. Paid up by check without even a note. Hehehehe.
That's the way: A class action suit by eleven apple growers was filed in December in Washington State against the NRDC and CBS for knowingly publishing false information on Alar [AtE Nov 89, May 90], costing them $100,000,000. The third accomplice, Reilly and the EPA, is not sued, but I hope the NRDC goes the way of the Seabrook Clamshell Alliance when Sununu, then a professor without political office, sued the lying obstructionists.
