Reilly's obedient parrots at the UN repeated his preposterous claim of an additional 210,000 fatal skin cancers over he next 50 years due to ozone depletion. This is reckless fear-mongering unsupported by any data. Melanoma, the only truly dangerous form of skin cancer has little to do with UV radiation, for it is not significantly correlated with latitude and appears on unexposed parts of the body, such as soles and buttocks; the skin cancer that does show correlation with latitude (and hence with UV radiation) has a cure rate of 99% and could not reach 210,000 (4,200/year) by any forecasting method other than a deliberate lie.

I repeat that the depletion and accumulation rates of -0.47% and +0.28% per year found by NASA's researchers are a tes-timony to the precision of the observations, but they are insig-nificant compared with the 25%-per-year natural fluctuations with season and latitude.

There is not a shred of evidence linking the "ozone hole" or any other part of the ozone layer to CFCs or any other man-made activity. The panel admitted that "sulfur particles" (how about chlorine?) from volcanoes are also a cause of depletion. (Trailer parks are sometimes destroyed by sneezing flies. Hurricanes and twisters are also a cause.)

The ozone "hole," a 30% reduction for 6 weeks this time of year, was found "bigger than ever" in loud headlines by the scaremongers. In the ridiculously short experience that we have (7 years), it is sometimes bigger, sometimes smaller. That alone disproves any correlation with man-made chemicals, as does the fact that it is in the South, with very much smaller use of industrial products than in the Northern Hemisphere.

The proof of the pudding is in the amount of short-wave UV radiation reaching the earth's surface. From the last figures avail-able to me (through 1985), none of the ground stations measuring it reported an increase, and several reported a decrease. What are they doing now, Billy Boy and UN parrots? The silence on this point is as telling as the silence on the number of victims infected by Magic Johnson in his lifestyle before he became the Grand AIDS Martyr.

Encouraged by the repetition of Reilly's manipulated data in March, the sham-environmentalists called for advancing the schedule of the political and unscientific Montreal protocol, by which CFCs are to be phased out by the end of the century. Their shrill chorus was joined by the Du Pont Co., which stands to make enormous sales of the (inferior) CFC substitutes it has been developing as a working fluid in refrigerators and air conditioners.

Peter Samuel of the Washington Inquirer of 10/11/91 (a weekly associated with Accuracy in Media) reports that Du Pont has two products, now known as 152a and 134a ("Suva"). The latter al-legedly contributes to global warming, but the former (reminiscent of the many fires due to the replacement of PCB in transformers) will explode if ignited, for example, by the filament of the 15 W refrigerator bulb on breakage. Du Pont rejects the greenhouse accusations, but is willing to sell 152a if regulators declare it safe. With their usual contempt for life and environment, the Greens are pushing the hazardous 152a so as to pay homage to the Green Goddess of the Greenhouse.
