The owner of a grocery chain with 108 outlets in the San Francisco area orders grocery bags in lots of up to 1,000,000 at a time and has all four sides imprinted with a "bagatorial" including graphics. It is all good and hot stuff, for he is also an enthusiastic AtE subscriber. Would I write such a "bagatorial," he asked. Talk to one million women! The chance of a lifetime.
Alas, at the time I was in radiation therapy, a total of 4,400 rads to my abdomen in daily doses of about 260 rads; in my case the side effects took the form of fatigue (more like an animalistic stupor) and it was all I could do to get the Sept. and Oct. AtE is-sues and the other journal out in time, and even that took some doing. I had to refuse.
But about 2 weeks after the therapy, I felt good enough to ride my bike, even if only for 5 miles on fairly flat terrain, and I wrote an essay on food irradiation, which the owner accepted and which will soon be on his grocery bags. I also reformatted it to 2 pages in smaller type for interested readers who can get it for a SASE from us (see masthead)--yes, this time it's really from us, in general please read carefully where to send a SASE; on other occasions we get quite a few SASEs that we have to return asking the sender to read more attentively.
