1) Top of the list: PJ. Michaels (environmental sciences, U of Va.), Sound and Fury: the politics of global warming, 197 pp., sftbd., 1992, $13.95 ppd., Cato Inst., 224 2nd St. SE, Washington, DC 20003. Tops!
2) J. S. Nathwani & oth., Energy for 300 years: benefits and risks, 488 pp., sftbd., 1992 Inst. f. Risk Rsrch., U. of Waterloo, Waterloo, Canada N2L 3G1; a most excellent, fact-filled comparison of risks involved in various ways of generating electricity.
3) M.W. Lewis (ass. prof. of geography at Washington U.), Green Delusions (1992), hdbd., 288 pp., $24.95 + S&H, Duke Univ. Press, 6697 College Station, Durham, NC 27708. "An Environmentalist critique of radical environmentalism" uses no quantitative data and is very good in unmasking the "deep" or "Green Rage" types of environmentalism, but through his lack of knowledge of quantitative data and technology, the author has himself fallen for a number of environmentalist myths in energy and other fields.
4) S.H. Wittwer, "Flower Power: Rising CO
2 is great for plants." Policy Review (214 Mass. Ave NE, Wash. DC 20002); a fundamental article why CO2 is good for the environment. I may come back to it in the future.5) J. Oberg, "Shooting down the myths of KAL Flight," WSJ 10/21, about info from Soviet files on shooting down the Korean airliner with 269 people in cold blood in 1983. A disgrace for the Soviets, who claimed the plane was on a spy mission, but perhaps an even greater disgrace for Time, NY Times who partially repeated it, and for David Brower of the Fiends of the Earth who said so outright.
6) Congestion pricing for Southern California, Reason Fndtn. report by several authors (3415 S. Sepulda Blvd/#400, L.A., CA 90034, tel. 310-391-2245).
